"We never musically condescend to children, but treat their minds and sensibilities with respect. NIGHTnight is mellow music that children and their grown-ups can enjoy together. Although relaxing, these arrangements are also complex and engaging. Cozy up together in your biggest armchair - right in front of the speakers. NIGHTnight is dedicated with love to the little ones who were the direct inspiration for this CD: Leo, Casten, Lucas, Mia & Sophia."

NIGHTnight contains songs you will recognize - Brahms Lullaby, Freres Jacques, and All Through the Night - as well as original music. To their basic guitar/flute instrumentation, Michael & Sandy have added ukulele, piano, & percussion.

The beautiful CD cover art was created by Dayton artist MB Hopkins.

MB Hopkins is an artist, illustrator and designer at the Dayton Daily News. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wright State University and is an alumnae of the Yale University School of Music and Art.
Hopkins has received numerous honors for her newspaper illustration and design and has exhibited her work in and around the Dayton area for decades.
"Sometimes art just speaks to us. I strive to give voice to the stories and situations that have spoken to me. I find it to be therapeutic, and I wish for others to find that as well. Art has the power to transform us, the power to bring awareness, satisfy a craving, and even, in some cases, inspire action."

You may order a print of the complete painting (22" x 8.5") by emailing MB at: artist@mbhopkins.com

BASH & HOWL    A while back we began experimenting, combining acoustic instruments and programmed percussion.  Soon we contacted our buddy Steve White (currently with Blue Man Group in NYC) who's been working with live performance computer programs, and we began collaborating on tracks -- travelling to work in each others’ studios, as well as via email.  No CD available yet, but we could do this live in your hometown -- if you can handle the serious frequencies.  Joe, our recording engineer, says we're "too dynamic to be mastered."  We like the sound of that.

BASH & HOWL = trance = dance = white magic = gravis ferrum.

LISTEN:  India Mix (with Steve's percussion track)

LISTEN: Dreamy

LISTEN: Creole Mix

Instrumentation:
Michael -- Sound Sculptures (photo at left -- three Giant Kalimbas, Monzithor, and Globow), flutes, harmonicas, marimba, vocals, altered vocals, and hand percussion.
Sandy -- guitars, vocals, Sound Sculptures.
Steve -- drum tracks, hand drums, percussion.

MYSTERIUM    We've worked in experimental/alternative forms of music for years, giving concerts in performing arts venues throughout the US. On numerous occasions, after the concert, people would report their own feelings of well-being and healing, so we decided to make some music specifically for that purpose.

MYSTERIUM is meditative music, presented in one track of 43 minutes, played on Sound Sculptures and flutes. The huge metal resonators of the Sound Sculptures (photo above) produce swirling natural harmonic overtones. This one-track format is perfect for a session of therapeutic massage or reiki. The music also works beautifully for meditation and relaxation, as well as yoga or tai chi practice.  To purchase this CD, click here.

"I believe this music moves our focus out of the physical body to energy selves that are aligned with the cosmos, vibrating in cosmic energies/sounds that heal. I felt the energies coming in through my heart chakra. I believe it works because there is no musical theme for the mind to latch onto, so it goes directly to the heart which then is the organ directing the healing. Consequently, I believe it is outstanding for clearing and healing pain resulting from affective emotions we are holding on a cellular level in our bodies."  Cathy B, bodyworker, reiki master.

Orchestra -- Some of our music has been orchestrated by our friend & colleague, Bosnian composer Dino Zonic.  In October, 2004 we performed with the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, in the National Theatre, Bosnia i Herzegovina.  We played our composition, Balances, which was written for "Globow," one of Michael's Sound Sculptures.  It was conducted by Neal Gittleman, of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.  At left -- Dino bowing Globow; Sandy on guitar, Michael playing Globow with an aluminum slide, Neal conducting.  After this concert, we played in Split, Croatia.  By the way -- both Bosnia and Croatia are AMAZING places -- take a vacation.

SANDY'S SONGS -- I've been writing songs since I was 17: recorded with Vanguard back in the day, and also with Atlantic (long story).  From time to time I'll put a song or two on this site.  I'd love to hear what you think, so please give a listen and email me if you like:  sandy's email.  All best, Sandy

LISTEN:  Sarajevo Song

(words & music, Sandy Bashaw)  This song was inspired by hearing first hand stories of the siege of Sarajevo . . . . but it is also about the siege of any city, town or village.  This recording is a new version -- an acoustic version is available on "Duo."

We're also working on a collaboration with avant garde futurist Roscoe Mitchell. No time frame yet for this project, but it will happen both in outer space and in Dayton, Ohio.  Keep your receiver on -- www.puzzleoflight.com  for the calendar.

OR -- keep your antenna finely tuned.

In May, 2008 I joined the reunion of the Last Mile Ramblers, a county & western/western swing band I played with in the 1970s.  We played a reunion concert at the KiMo Theater in Albuquerque -- it was big fun.
